The blonde boy gave one of his dimpled smiles as she sent him one “Nice to meet you too sweetheart” he returned as he leaned back on his elbow. The girl threw away her cigarette-but only to pick it up a few seconds later to put it in the bin. Hmm… was she one of those environmental freaks? Who knew… but hey, who was he to judge? Besides, if that’s what made her happy, that was all that mattered wasn’t it? He watched her as she looked back at him answering his question. The blonde smiled as she said she didn’t really party. Ah well, he’d find the right places on his own. Besides, he did not want to get this girl involved in what was his poor excuse for a life. Dear god did he need a drink. He tilted his head as he listed to what she said they should get out of here before they got caught. He smiled “Scared are ya?” he asked teasingly and he was about to answer her next question when something bolted across the school campus.
“James” a small voice piped up excitedly as she ran up to him jumping in his lap throwing her arms around her new-found friend. He gave a smile hiding a wince of pain as he was still injured.
The girl looked at him with a smile. She remembered she had first met him. He had seemed so scary. Soon though she had found that he wasn’t frightening at all, just grumpy sometimes. She could handle that, especially since she had often been helped by him. Telling her to make herself scarce so she wouldn’t have to see what happened, even though she could hear the shouts from her room and later see the cuts and bruises. She sometimes just whished the boy would stop getting in trouble so he would not be punished as much.
James frowned slightly “What are you doing here sugar-pop?” he asked ruffling the girl long blonde hair “Shouldn’t you be in school?”
She shrugged “No” she giggled “we have a break and I saw you go over here this morning so I went to find you” she explained “I have made new friends already” she smiled excitedly.
James shook his head ever so slightly. He was so not setting a good example for the kid. Sneaking out all the time. School, where for him was pointless, it would be important for her. She still had a chance and he would try and help as best he could.
The girl now looked around and noticed the other girl there. She then bit her bottom lip shyly. “Hi” she whispered watching the girl from behind her long lashes. “I’m Shana” she then introduced herself ever so softly. She couldn’t help it. She had always been a shy girl. She tilted her head ever so slightly, hoping the girl wouldn’t be mad she had interrupted them. The blonde boy ruffled the girl’s hair once more shaking his head “I’m sorry… she get’s shy” he told the girl… Zarha…
Shana just bit her bottom lip once again staying close to her foster-brother. =====================
((cool! See you tomorrow… (I hope so.. it sure took me long enough to finish…)))

{{God, I'm so stupid; I didn't see there was more than one page, so I haven't been seeing that you've replied till now. Sorry. }} Zarha watched him speak to her ever so lightly it almost made her shiver. Then, her brows furrowed uneasily as she crossed her arms. "I am not scared," she replied, tilting her chin upward. Her body was stiff for a moment or two when something zipped out of the corner of her eye. Jumping up, she looked around, then sat back down again when she noticed who it was. She nodded as the small shy girl attempted to introduce herself. "Nice to meet you, Shana. I love your name, by the way." Her smile was warm and welcoming, even though earlier she had hoped no one would interuppt them. She was too bored to talk plainly and sweetly. She did that already too much to her dog. Rolling her eyes as she thought, she turned back to Shana and James. "Hmm..." she looked at her, then back at James, then down on the groud, deep in thought. She didn't think that the both of them were setting a very good influence on her, and she hated the fact that her life was so torn; she didn't want to tear up anyone elses' life just to get her own way. There were the positives and the negatives. Zarha sighed again and looked at the both of them once more. Trying to hold in her scolding comments, she replied, "Break? Hmm...what class are you in?" But after a while, she decided to change the subject before anyone could reply and looked back at James. "So...is..this your sister?" she tilted her head, trying to look curious. If anything, these two were step brother and sister. Foster? Probably. They didn't look much alike, and Zarha couldn't believe that he had parents that cared about him as much as they would with her. Blinking, she sat and waited for his response.

The blonde smiled shaking his head as the girl told her she wasn’t scared. His lips curled into a smile but then the girl in his lap had introduced herself. He glanced between he two girls. He didn’t know what to do. He just was no good at this. The young seven year old smile widely as the other girl complemented on her name. She flushed a slight red.
“Thank you” she whispered but then looked up at the girl. Was she a new friend of James? She frowned ever so slightly. Mostly, James’ friends were big scary boys that would get him in trouble like that time the police had come to their place and the man had been very, very angry. She was about to respond that, yes, she had a break, and that she was in (I suppose a seven year old would be in second grade?) second grade. She didn’t have to though as the older girl had already changed the subject asking if she was James’ sister. She knew she wasn’t.. not really anyway. But she had always wanted an older brother, and if she would have had she’d have hoped he’d be like James. He was always there to protect her, trying to get her out of trouble even if that would get him punished. She still couldn’t understand why they hated him so much. She sighed as she leaned back getting comfortable.
James smiled down at the little girl before looking back at his class-mate and possible new friend. He smiled shaking his head “no sweetheart, my foster-parents took her in a few weeks ago” he answered. It was of no use to lie anyway and why should he? Shana smiled up at him before she ran a hand through her long brown hair. she knew she probably shouldn’t have run from school grounds, but hey, James was sneaking of all the time, why shouldn’t she? He would talk to her later though, she knew.
She also remembered her first day with her new family. Her parents had just died in a car-crash. The brunette had been picked up by a lady from social-services who had told her she’d found the perfect family for her. She still didn’t understand why her parents would leave her like that. How could they just disappear and leave her alone? She had cried her little eyes out and they were still puffy. When the woman dropped her of and the man had introduced himself as Sean. He had taken to her to what she assumed would be her new home. She had bit her lip as they had entered and the man had roared some name. There had been a shout from the kitchen and not to long after a tall blonde had appeared.
She hadn’t been able to understand the look of horror that crossed the boys face and it had scared her. Didn’t he like her? Then he had taken her bags and told her to follow him. She had done as she was told and he had lead her into a small room with a bed, desk and build in closet. He had put the stuff down and knelt down “hello princess” he had smiled and she had giggled. They had talked for a bit, done their introduction and he had told her to stay in her room until he called her down for diner. She had immediately like him, even though he seemed very sad. He had told her to go upstairs when Sean had seemed angry with him. She again, hadn’t yet understood, but soon she’d heard shouts and loud noises from downstairs. She could hear them from her room. She had understood.
Right now she looked between the boy and girl and then shrugged. This girl too seemed sad. What had happened to her? Hey she couldn’t help but be curious. She always had been. And maybe James could help this girl, just as he had helped her. Then again. Who would help the troubled boy? She worried about him sometimes as she didn’t know how he got through all this. She had tried to help, but knew there was nothing she could do. Maybe she should tell this girl? They could help each-other couldn’t they? James shook his head “what do you then at night if you don’t go out?” he asked out of curiosity. There had to be something to do in this town and he couldn’t imagine anyone wanting to spent their night just locked in ones room like he had for the past few days..

((I'm back!))
Zarha sighed and put her chin to her palm, crossing her legs. She was terriby bored, and wanted to go look for food so at least she could get something to eat. After all, school was a major not-much right now, and she could only show up to lunch when she could afford it. Sighing again, she looked from the Foster girl, back to James.
"Ah," she replied, "I thought so..." She tried to put her thoughts out of her mouth delicately, although that was hard for Zarha to do. Rolling her eyes to herself, she turned back to James. There was a long silence of some sort of thought. Zarha liked it, though, and listened to her thoughts and the morning birds that fluttered through the trees randomly. There was a nest above her head. She smiled up to it, then looked back at James when he spoke again, cutting into her thoughts.
Zarha listened intently to his question, to make sure some of her thoughts wouldn't spill out of her mouth again.
"Hmm...I just sit at home...with my dog. Or...sometimes, if I'm not going out, I like to watch the stars...climb up all the trees, y' know, and just look." She tilted her head slightly upward to see the blue skies and rolling clouds above their heads. Nature was a beauty to her, and always had been.
That was the only thing that would never be changed.

"Hmm...I just sit at home...with my dog. Or...sometimes, if I'm not going out, I like to watch the stars...climb up all the trees, y' know, and just look" she answered his question. The boy nodded. Well, to each their own right? It would necessarily be the way he’d want to spent his evenings. He got bored easily and well, he had never had a dog.
James sighed shaking his head then the blonde ran a hand through his hair as he watched his class mate. Then he turned to the little girl “Let’s get you back to school now shall we sugar-pop?” he suggested. The girl shrugged but complied anyway. She moved from his lap and James rose to his feet as well. The boy turned to his class-mate as the girl was already skipping along “You want to get out of here?” he asked Zarha as he wasn’t really thinking about going to classes today anyway, maybe he should go get something to eat. He had taken some money from his ‘emergency packet’ this morning as well, one never knew when it could come in handy.
“Wait up sweetheart” he called to the little girl who turned her head and instantly obeyed. James shook his head as he waited for the other girl to see if she’d like to come. It didn’t matter to him though. he’d have fun anyway. Grab a bite to and just roam the town, see what was out here. He was not going to be stuck in the house one more night. He needed some relieve, just as that night when he’d taken that car for a joy-ride with his friends. He had paid dearly though…
He could feel his blood start to boil at the mere memory. How dare that sun of a bitch? He was nothing like his father! Okay, so he may have his father’s temper, but that was it… or so the boy hoped as he made his way towards the girl wondering if the teen girl would follow… He sighed. School would probably call home and he’d get them ripped when he’d get home. He just didn’t care about school. He knew it was for his ‘own’ future, but truth be told, he knew he didn’t have a future, not a bright one anyway. He remembered how that woman at social services had tried scolding him when he had first started to get in trouble.
James still heard the scolding voice of his social-worker. “James, you need to try harder, school has been mentioning you’ve been getting into problems, and you’ve been in trouble with the police” she had said. James had narrowed his stormy sea-colored eyes at her. “Fuck that” he had grumbled in response “They don’t know nothing” he muttered. The woman sighed in frustration pretending she hadn’t heard. “It’s for you own future” she had tried again. Then young teen had looked at her in disbelieve before simply scoffing.
His own future? He had learned years ago, that he had no future, no bright one anyway, and he had made peace with that. The woman shook her head “Just be warned James, within a few years, you will be an adult and be solely responsible of your own actions. You don’t want to end up in jail now do you?” she questioned. The boy sighed, but eventually shook his head “No ma’m” he smirked unconvincingly before rising to his feet, he just couldn’t be bothered with all this and well, whatever will be, will be right? “Can I go now?” he then simply asked. She waved a dismissive hand “Yes you may, just please take my advise to heart” she told him. James gave a mock salute “sure thing” he threw over his shoulder as he walked through the door.
He knew that they were only trying to set him straight, but honestly he knew they didn’t give a damn. They had put him with that damn family hadn’t they? And then they had just left him fending for himself. Sure they had visited him in the hospital a few time, but that hardly meant anything. They had stayed for five minutes, asking him some stupid questions before they left him alone once again, even though, when he was eight years old, they had promised everything was going to be okay and that they were going to look out for him, be there for him and help him if he ever needed something. Yeah, what a load of crap that had been. He’d hardly seen them after that. Not that he had cared. He didn’t need any help anyway, and had always rather dealt with stuff himself. He just felt uncomfortable talking about it, even if some school-nurses had tried and get him to open up and talk, but none had been successful. He was smart and well, had learned he was a great liar. He could think on his feet and come up with excuses quickly. They eventually had given up and left him to it and he was grateful for it.
