Beep… beep.. beep.
I grumble as my hand shoots out from underneath the covers. This was just brilliant.. I force my eyes open squinting at the early morning light that streamed into my curtainless window. My head pounded from where I had hit the floor last night and my entire body ached. I sigh shaking my blonde head, it was just getting so fucking old.
“JAMES” came a shout from down-stairs.. “Get your ass down here”
“Coming!” I call back. I know it is dangerous, believe me, but I just really didn’t care. I swing my legs from under the blanket and quickly throw on some clothes. I then make my way down-stairs were I’m practically shoved into the kitchen by the ‘man of the house’ “Hurry up you lousy boy, and get breakfast ready” he hissed and I had to restrain from rolling my eyes. I however did go into the kitchen and it wasn’t long before I had the desired breakfast on the table. The new arrival to our little family was staring at me unsure of what to do. I gave a smile before rushing back upstairs to my room to take a quick shower and collect the books I’d need. When I got back downstairs the girl was already waiting for me. I hand her her luch and she gives me a meek smile.
Then we leave the house and she takes my hand looking up at me “are you hurt?” she whispered. I smile shaking my head “I’m fine sugar-pop” I smiled ruffling her hair. She giggled but stlll gave me a warry look, as if to say she didn’t believe me. It didn’t really matter now did it? Soon we reach her school and she looked at me scared. I rest my hand on her shoulder “It’s going to be alright sweetheart” I try and assure.
She nods, but doesn’t let go “Can you come with me?” she whispered. I smile and nod “sure princess..” and so the two of us make our way to the schoolyard. I have a few words with the teachers and she’s soon playing with a few girls. I walk over “Hey sweetness, I’ve got to go now, okay? I’ll pick you up this afternoon”. She turns to me and nods throwing her arms around my neck. I smile while trying to suppress a wince. My body ached all over. I stay behind for a minute.
Then it had become time to head to school and so I hurry since I’m running late. Not that I really give a damn, but hey, since when did that ever matter? I walk up to the large building blowing out some smoke. Slipping into my usual cocky mask. Was there anything worse then a first day in a new school? I seriously doubt it. I head to the principals’ office to collect my time-table and then it was time for my first class. I go in search of the room and after not too long I found it. I slip in the back taking out the book I was reading deciding to just ignore the teacher and his babbling. It wasn’t hard but it also meant that I didn’t notice that he had come to stand near my desk watching me until there was a hand in front of me.
“What was the cause of the first WW?” the man asked.
I sigh bored without looking up I shrug “People are morons?” I simply answer earning a light chuckle from the rest of the class. The teacher though was less impressed and simply shook his head “thank you for that inside Mr. Ford..” he said with a raised eyebrow. I give another bored sigh “The relationship between the countries were already strained because of the new imperialism. When the crown prince of Austro-Hungary in 1914, it was the last straw and tada… WW1” I answered. I had read a few books on the subject. School never really was a problem. I leant back in my seat still not looking up from my book.
The man shook his head as he turned around “very well then Mr. Ford” the teacher smiled “now put the book away….”
“Sure thing teach” I simply answer putting the book back in my bag. Now how was I going to get through the lesson? I lean my head on my hands staring out of a nearby window until finally, the nightmare came to an end and the bell sounded. I get up and walked outside. Where I sit on the lawn leaning against a tree. I get a cigarette out of my bag and lit it. I took a deep drag while getting a book out of my bag. I had always loved reading, it was my way of escaping everything. That, and booze and drugs.. and could anyone really blame me?
