Evie sat there wishing she had a little piece of chocolate for warmth. As she mused over this, another girl, probably about a year older than her, entered the alley and crouched next to her. She said something in Dutch, which Evie assumed meant something along the lines of was she all right or not. Evie didn’t know. Was she? It was a rather confusing question. She wasn’t dead, so that was a plus. But she was still a little cold from the dementor…
Evie perked up slightly as she remembered the dementor. Had the girl seen the magic? But, if she had then she was in big trouble, unless the girl was a witch, but somehow Evie doubted that. If she was a witch then she would know Evie was still suffering from the dementor’s effects. Yet this only puzzled Evie more. Shouldn’t this girl have been suspect to the strange effects? As a Ravenclaw Evie had met nothing more puzzling than this and it was really starting to annoy her.
Then something else entered the alley, something Evie had only seen in the books. She stiffened slightly as the vampire dragging yet another girl into the alleyway. Well, wasn’t today just turning out great. No doubt the vampire would kill the girl then go for her and the strange Dutch one sitting next to her. And she was yet again pretty sure that the one the vampire held was not a witch. She watched disgusted, yet still curious as the vampire seemed ready to eat its prey.
Or that’s what she thought.
Evie watched as the girl next to her stood up and took on the vampire. The vampire called the blonde something strange… slayer? What did that mean? Evie had heard of vampire slayers, was this girl actually one? That didn’t seem right though. The Ministry would never trust someone so young to be a vampire slayer. Yet as the girl kicked the vampire and set the other one free Evie couldn’t think of any other logical explanation. Then again, it would be better if the girl turned out to not belong to the Ministry. Then her underage magic might just go unnoticed. She was in a foreign country obviously, so the British Ministry probably wouldn’t catch her. On the other hand, there was always the Dutch Ministry.
Evie blinked as she turned back to the vampire and the potential vampire slayer. The vampire seemed to have gone and yet again another unexplained person was in the alley. Evie didn’t bother to keep up with the conversation, even though it did seem to be in choppy English this time. Finally the man disappeared and the girl crouched next to her and said something once more in Dutch. Evie shook her head slightly and stood up brushing the dust off her clothes.
“English?” she said a little weakly. Maybe she could get everything explained to her. Mysteries were not a good thing in the minds of Ravenclaws. They thought they knew everything and when they didn’t, they had to get to the bottom of it quickly.

Malou sighed as she still thought about what the vampire had told her… Was there something she’d missed…? What was going to happen on Saturday? She would have to consult her watcher when she’d get home. She shook the thought out of her head. She had the girl to worry about, plus she had to figure out what it was that had happened when she had first entered the alley. This was her town and she needed to be on top of whatever had just come barging in and make sure the people here were safe. It was her job, and one she’d been doing for years now. She looked at the girl as she waited for an answer. The girl seemed weakened for some reason and she was curious.
“English?” came the girl’s weak voice and Malou smiled.
“Of course” she said in a barely noticeable accent since she’d been talking to her British watcher ever since she’d been around 12. “I said I was sorry for the interruption, and if you were alright?” she repeated rather worriedly extending a hand to help the girl up “you look like you need a drink” she smiled. She had soon learned the benefits of alcohol and it had kept her from completely loosing he mind and cracking under the responsibilities she carried. She didn’t know about magic, let alone the Ministries… She barely knew anything about the watcher-council that apparently employed Jones and that they were just a bunch of suits sitting on the asses leaving it to her to do all the work. She really didn’t think to highly about it all. Sure she had learned to get on with Jones, since she’d had to, but for the rest… they could just rot in hell for all she cared.
She turned her attention back to the girl “So what happened?” she asked referring to the things that had gone on before she had come into the alley “What are we dealing with?” she clarified. She just needed to know what she was up against and how she was going to kill it “Maybe we should go by my place so you can catch your breath and well… we’d be safer there” she shrugged digging around in her pocket to take out a package of cigarettes. She took one out and put it between her lips and lighting it, offering the package to the girl “want one?” she asked as she blew out some smoke. Yeah, she smoked… It wasn’t like she had a bright future ahead of her, since most slayers wouldn’t even pass 20 before they would come up against their death, and even though the blonde didn’t want to die, she sometimes wondered if it wouldn’t be for the best..
Ah well, first dealing with the problem at hand. New baddies in town, plus a vampire that seemed all too confident on killing her Saturday even if she had no idea why he had chosen to wait until then. Mostly vampires would just attack whenever they felt like it and just that fact alone made her slightly anxious. She knew she’d be able to take him, or was that just wishful thinking? Maybe she was overconfident as well? Who could tell? She didn’t care anyway and simply stifled a yawn as she waited for the other girl while she was trying to figure out whether or not the blonde was to be trusted. She let her eyes wander around the area to make sure no more vampire had followed her down here… She needed to keep the girl safe. She sighed… yet another one she had to protect. She sighed… she herself could do with a drink… and not just one… She shook her head and then realized she hadn’t even introduced herself “I’m Malou” she smiled holding out her hand…

Ah, so she had been asking if Evie was alright. Well, she was certainly better now that the dementor and vampire were gone. Evie shook off the girl’s hand. She was fine now, still a little lightheaded, but otherwise didn’t need help. Independence was a necessity in her book, especially in a foreign country where you knew almost no one. But Evie had been raised on independence with three older siblings and parents who barely cared.
Oh, she was offering Evie a drink. A drink meant… most likely alcohol. Evie didn’t drink alcohol or do drugs. Besides, she didn’t think alcohol would help anyway. It might worsen the situation for all she knew. From what she knew dizziness and alcohol resulted in one sick child. Evie knew enough from watching Karina down a bottle of fire whiskey behind their parents and older brother’s back.
Shaking her head she said, “No, I need some chocolate,” She nodded then said firmly, “Chocolate will help,” She smiled hoping this would reassure the girl. Of course, she wasn’t sure how the people in this country would work. Usually Brits would leave you alone if you didn’t want anything. But Evie had been to other countries and seen they didn’t work that way. Take Rome, extremely friendly and they never backed off; just kept pestering you until you finally took medicine. But Evie had never been here, so she didn’t know if the girl would take her word. And Muggles… if she still was one… didn’t seem to think chocolate was very healthy after you had been through an ordeal, or looked clammy.
“Um, what happened?” Evie asked as she turned back. Oh no, had she seen the magic? Or worse… could she see dementors? Thinking quickly, Evie decided the best thing was too lie. “I- uh- tripped,” she lied rather lamely. Ooh, this would not do. If she had been Karina- which thank god she wasn’t- she would’ve thought up an amazing lie in a minute without lieing. But then again, that was the Slytherin way.
Evie nodded. “Yeah, I tripped and hit my head when I took the wrong turn,” she tried to be a little more firm, but she wasn’t sure how it was going. The girl took out a cigarette and offered it to Evie. She shook her head quickly. Smoking, not good. Whatever, the girl could kill herself if she wanted to. This wasn’t the time to lecture about the evils of smoking right now. She had to think of a way to get out of here quick and preferably home. That meant she had to get back immediately to the hotel and change her return flight.
Oh, she had to pay attention. “Malou?” Evie smiled hesitantly. Should she lie about her name? No, that didn’t seem to matter. Anyway she wasn’t giving her real name. Or last. “I’m Evie,” She took Malou’s hand and shook it. “Anyway, do you think you could help me back to my hotel? I’m rather lost around here,” She nodded again still smiling.

Malou raised an eyebrow as the other girl told her she had fallen down and hit her head. She smirked “yeah… and I’m the queen” she shook her head “look… I need to know what I’m going to be up against so I can nip this damn thing in the but” she sighed. Hey, if this girl didn’t want, or needed her help, that was fine.. but she needed to know how to keep this town from being infested with what the hell it was that had been here a while ago. She then dug around in her bag. She thought she had some chocolate in here. She took it out and offered it to the girl. She sighed… if the other was hell-bent on lying she would have to drag the truth out of her. She hated this part. The research part. It was not her things, but hey.. the girl had seemed really shaken up and it was her job to make sure that, or worse things, were not to happen again.
“You really are a horrid liar…” she smirked lightly "Nice to meet you" she smiled as the other introduced herself as well. She nodded “Sure, I’ll get you back to your hotel” she promised as she rose to her feet and started out of the alley. She was going to have to go by the local demon joint and if she could get some information there about the new ‘big bad’ and the blond vampire. The girl turned to see if the other was following. She kept her wits about her and scanned the area so that there would be anymore nasty surprises. She closed her eyes for a second, she was tired. She had barely slept after that night when she’d come home to find her parents on the floor… She’d been glad that her brother’s and sister had been staying with family and friends. She hadn’t known what to do and had called Jones and he had take care of everything that night. She had told her siblings and then taken care of the funeral as she figured was expected of her. It hadn’t been hard to find things to bury herself in to keep her mind occupied. There was school, her siblings, since she refused to have them all be taken into foster-care. Lucky for her, her watcher had some helpful connections who had drawn up the necessary paperwork for them to be able stay together.
The tiny blonde smiled inwardly as she thought about how much she’d grown up in these last few years. She remembered her and her friends still going to the local playground when Jones had come to talk to her. She had first not even wanted to speak to him, since well,… her parents had taught her never to talk to strangers. Eventually he had convinced her though and over the years they had become… friends? Was that even possible? Well, it didn’t matter what they were really. There was a mutual trust and she knew he saw her as his charge and that she would always remain. She looked back at the other girl to see if she was alright. She looked around and well… guided the way back to the girl’s hotel “Here you go” she smiled “and if you change you mind about telling the truth you can always call me” she said scribbling her number on a piece of paper handing it to the girl “Are you sure you’re going to be alright?” she asked
Yeah so she’d already answered that.. but hell it was her job so sue her for trying to make sure. She didn’t really know what to do… She hadn’t really been social for such a long time and this was strange, even for her. She just wished that she had been able to get an answer as to what it was that had given the girl such a scare. Ah well.. Maybe Jones had heard something.
((sooo sorry this is so horrid… but I had to do this quickly since I had to leave soon.. ooh and I was thinking maybe the dementors could attack again? Totally up to you though…))

Evie took the chocolate and bit into it. Warmth seemed to spread from head to toe. So this girl, Malou, knew she was lieing. Not unexpected, she was the worst liar on Earth. She could scheme and plot, but she couldn’t lie. She had always left that up to her siblings especially Scott. But the thing was she either had to keep lieing or tell her the truth. And yet this brought up the earlier problem Evie had had. If she was a witch, then Malou would’ve been able to know what a dementor was at sight. She didn’t obviously and yet she still could see them. As far as Evie knew only witches and wizards could see them. But this girl seemed to be coming and turning her whole world upside down.
Evie followed her as she headed towards what was hopefully her hotel. Although, she suspected there wasn’t many in a ten mile radius here anyway. She carefully folded the chocolate up in case she may need it later. The dementor wasn’t dead, it was probably still around even against her best hopes. Stroking her wand, she sighed hoping she wouldn’t have to deal with it. Maybe she would be out of this damned country before she could see it again. But that wasn’t exactly fair to the girl helping her. She was just going to leave some soul-sucking creature on the loose when she was maybe the only one who really knew about it? Malou obviously had no clue, and Evie really didn’t know where she got her information from. Great, it looks like she was going to have to stay for at least another couple of days until that dementor was taken care of: So much for leaving to a nice, cozy and relatively safe home, even if it was loud and disturbing.
The girl in front of her stopped and Evie assumed that this was the hotel. Evie took the number from her staring at it still debating if she should stay or go. She nodded. “I’m sure I’ll be alright,” she said quietly giving a quick smile. She pocketed the number, wondering if she’d ever need it then turned to go up the front steps. She trudged up the first few knowing she had just turned her back on this country and innocent people may have their souls taken. It wasn’t her country though; even so it still felt wrong.
Evie turned away from the door, and heaved a sigh. She ran her hand through her heavy black hair and said, “Okay, I’ll help you,” she nodded, “You’re going to need the most help you can get,” she stepped back down the steps with a finality, cocked her hand to the side slightly studying the girl waiting for an answer.
[[Don't worry, mine isn't much better. Another dementor attack? Sure maybe later. I didn't put one in this because I thought it might be redundant.]]

Malou watched the girl head up the stairs. Damned. Now she’d be spending the rest of the night researching since she was going to have to know how to kill whatever it was that had come to town. She couldn’t really blame the girl though, since whatever it was had really seemed to have affected the dark-haired girl. She sighed… she couldn’t help this girl if she didn’t get the necessary information. She was about to turn around to go and check what the local demon-bar holder could tell her when a voice stopped her.
“Okay, I’ll help you” it stated “You are going to need the most help you can get” she finished.
The small blonde smiled as she slowly turned around watching the girl come back down “The only thing I need to know is where I can find them and how to kill whatever the hell it was” she shrugged as she rolled her eyes taking out the stake from her pocket thrusting her arm backwards successfully staking the vampire that had thought it wise to attack her. She shook her head “That was just rude, I’m having a conversation here” she shook her head tilting her head before looking back at the girl before her “You’d think that eventually they’d learn wouldn’t ya?” she complained shaking her head. She just got so sick and tired of their supposed bravado and attacks seemingly out of nowhere. Did they really think she didn’t know they were there? She wasn’t the slayer for nothing.
The girl sighed as her cell-phone rang. She looked at the device and then gave the girl an apologetic look as she answered. It was the home-front and she was afraid it might be something serious. She was reassured though when her youngest brother’s voice reached her ears “Malou… ben jij nog lang bezig?” he asked. Malou sighed slightly feeling ooh so guilty. She knew she needed to be there for her family, but she just didn’t have the time or means to do so. Sometimes she just wished she could be split in two so she had enough time for everything. She sighed “Schatje, je moet allang op bed liggen, Ik kom zo snel als ik kan” she replied. Her brother gave a dissapointed grunt but eventually sighed “oke… maar maak me wakker als je thuis bent” he pleaded. He just got so worried about his sister. What were they going to do if she was not to return home? He had soon figured out that whatever his sister was doing every night was important, but also that it was highly dangerous and every time she stepped out the door there was a very good possibility that it was the last time he’d see her, even if his older brother would refuse to think about or even acknowledge it. Malou smiled slightly “zal ik doen liefje, ga nou maar lekker slapen” she ushered and the two hung up.
“Sorry about that” she apologized “Maybe we should go inside and talk about what is going on since we seem to get interrupted out here” she smirked glancing at the heap of dust that used to be the vampire that had attacked annoyed. She moved to the stairs “You gonna be in town long?” she asked by means of making conversation and to lighten the talk ever so slightly since it seemed to be hard for the other discus. She wondered why. Maybe those things were after her specifically? Maybe she had some sort of power that they needed… Perhaps fate had sent her here so the slayer could protect her. She shook this of. That was ridiculous. There was no such thing… was there? Ah well.. that was a inner dialogue for another time as she now waited patiently for the other girl’s response hoping she hadn’t scared her too much. ---------------------------
(It was absolutely fine!
Later is fine too... ! Like I said I'll leave that up to you!)

Evie smirked slightly at the relieved look on the other’s face. Probably had just saved her a lot of guess work. But she was a little confused. How to kill them? There was no actual way of killing a dementor as far as Evie knew. You could drive them off with a patronous but other than that, no one had actually figured out how to get rid of them. She shook her head slightly to the side when another creature came up behind the blonde. Evie had her wand out and everything, unfortunately the thing was already dead before she could even open her mouth. Well, Evie guessed that was why the girl was here: to kill some vampires.
“Right, you can’t actually kill a dementor as far as I know,” she nodded then something started ringing. Evie started, and then relaxed when she realized it was coming from Malou’s pocket. She crossed her arms as the girl started talking in Dutch again into a small silver device. She really had to learn how to speak other languages, or she was going to go crazy when she went to another country again. Besides from that, what was that silver thing? It was weird looking and seemed to be giving out electronic transmissions. A muggle device no doubt. Evie had never really seen one before. What were they called? It had been on the Muggle Review test. A phone! Right, a phone. Something muggles used to communicate. So that meant this girl was definitely not a witch, or she was a muggle-born who still stayed in contact with family that way.
Malou hung up. “Inside?” Evie repeated blankly, as the other girl’s voice brought her back to reality. She nodded. “Why not?” she shrugged again. Okay, Evie really needed to learn how to be sociable. Then again she was in a foreign country where she knew no one, so it wasn’t like she was a misanthrope. No, she was just new. Evie smiled slightly to herself. “Ah, two weeks. Then I have to go back to Hogwarts,” she threw out accidentally. She winced at her words. That wasn’t good, she had revealed Hogwarts. Now she was going to have to explain what it was. She groaned inwardly at the long story she would have to tell. It was her fault though, she had got into this mess now she had to get herself out of it.

Malou smiled as the raven-haired returned to her side. She was relieved. Now she at least she’d have a place to start her research. She frowned “What are Dementors?” she asked and shrugged… “I always find a way to kill the baddies” she said confidently, and well… in all these years, she always had killed the ‘monsters’ that had visited her town. Even when she’d just started and had no idea what the hell she was doing, she’d done what was necessary, as she would find she’d always do. The blonde girl sighed and turned back to the girl “well… let’s begin at the beginning.. what do you know about these… dementors?” she said as they made their way up the stairs of the hotel entrance. She had vaguely been aware of this Evie’s confused look when she’d picked up her cell, but it didn’t matter. She would figure it all out later.
Then she answered that she had to go back in two weeks and that she’d have to go back to Hogwarts then. Malou looked at her “What’s Hogwarts?” she asked casually leaning against a wall. Something struck her. She’d had dreams about some tall freakishly white and ugly guy waving some small stick around with some sort of green light coming from it, people screaming, dropping like flies when the light hit them. There were a few cloaked guys and it would appear they were waving these sticks as well, as another group tried to fight them and beat them back rather unsuccessfully. She had wondered if it might be a slayer dream? Some sort of warning vision… and maybe these dementors were a part of it? Maybe some sign of the start of her dream?
What they didn’t know, what that a still weakened Voldemort needed power, and needed it fast. He had found the primal source of it. Okay, so yeah, he had been rather disgusted when he had realized that it was somewhere in a muggle town. He had to hide someplace though and well, being in this town did give him the opportunity to find this power that he felt. He however had no idea that the power he was looking for was in a small 5 ft blonde girl, that by any means would look more of a dumb Barbie doll then someone holding a great deal of strength. He was getting rather frustrated though that it took so long for him to find what he was looking for.
The blonde watched the other girl’s expression… it seemed to harden and she didn’t seemed to pleased with herself that she had brought up this Hogwarts… It made her curious. What had she been missing? She just hoped the other would be able to tell her. If not… she’d just have to deal without knowing. It wouldn’t matter anyway. Chances were high she’d never have to deal with this Hogwarts anyway. She scanned the area. That new vampire was still bothering her for some reason. She had a feeling she was going to hear much more from him, and she didn’t enjoy that feeling one bit. Well.. that wasn’t her concern now and Jones would just have to look into it…

Evie sighed inwardly. Obviously this one was used to success; she had no idea what she was getting into. This was just going to make it a lot harder to break it to her. She twirled a lock of her hair absently as she tried to find words to explain what exactly a dementor was. But, that was rather hard if you hadn’t exactly seen it or been affected first-hand. The experience was something only someone who had actually felt it could explain or know. Evie hadn’t known what it was at first, but she had heard her friends explain it before. It wasn’t until she felt it that she knew how the cold felt like it was drowning every inch of her body at that one particular moment. Evie sat down on the worn-out rug.
“Well,” she started quietly, “A dementor is a creature that sucks all the happiness out of you. You can feel the warmth drain from your brain, even on a warm day,” her voice trailed off slightly remembering the nasty incident. “Then of course they can suck out your soul if they come close enough,” she nodded with a chill that if she hadn’t been able to produce the patronus she would have been worse than dead. “It just leaves you to be a lifeless shell,” Evie shook her head. No thoughts, no nothing. She couldn’t even imagine how horrible it would be to be just gone from existence. Unless your soul live unhappily forever in the dementor. She suppressed a shiver thinking of the horrible emptiness living in its presence for all eternity. “Anyway they used to guard Azkaban,” Oops, that was another thing she was going to have to explain now. Ah, that was the problem with Muggles: they had no idea what was going on. She guessed ignorance was bliss though.
Crap, the other girl had caught the saying about Hogwarts. Evie had been hoping she had missed it, but the damage was already done, there was no going back. Of course it was hard to explain what a dementor was without explaining what Hogwarts was. “Hogwarts is…” Evie trailed off examining the floor. How could you tell someone that it was a school of magic? That wasn’t something you saw everything. Although, she thought dryly, this girl probably saw so many ridiculous things every day she wouldn’t care. “A school,” she finished. At least she told the truth, even if it was part of the truth. Besides, Evie was still worried about how people would react knowing that she revealing so many secrets. She was going to be in so much trouble with the Ministry after the recovered from the reign of Voldemort. Then again, she didn’t know how long that would last. He had to die eventually, though right? She thought doubtfully. All empires rose and fell; it was just the nature of things.
Though the empire of all evil may be another story.

So that’s why she’d been so cold earlier on. Malou frowned slightly. Suck all the happiness out of you? Suck out your soul if they’d be close enough? She sighed isn’t that just a bitch? Vampires though didn’t have a soul too didn’t they? No conscience, no remorse… which she guessed was imperative for them to survive. Most people with a soul wouldn’t be able to kill people so that they could eat would they? It wasn’t important now. She listened carefully to all the other had to say. Guards of Azkaban? “What’s Azkaban? And why aren’t they guarding it now then?” she asked. She contemplated if she should tell the other girl about her dreams and whether or not it had anything to do with the dementors. She nodded as she replied that this Hogwarts was a school. Who was she to question that? Even thought it was obvious, that if it was a school, it probably wouldn’t be just the regular school now would it?
“Okay…” she began “does all this have something to do with some tall, ugly pale guy with some sort of hooded henchmen?” she asked. She hadn’t paid the dream much attention, but now that all this was happening, it just seemed she was meant to know. She took out a new cigarette lighting it. This was just so typical. Everything happening at the same time. She was already mentally preparing herself to being up nights, researching, fighting, and well, basically, doing her job. The blond ran a hand through her long hair as she blew out some smoke. She awaited the other response. If it did have something to do with that ugly man from her dreams, than that meant that she was supposed to jump in and help with whatever she could do. She looked back at the girl …
“Are you going to be alright?” she then asked. This all must have been one hell of an experience for the raven-haired, and that alone in a strange country… Maybe she should offer for the girl to stay at her place, so that she could keep her safe if these Dementors were to come back.. or even that new vampire as he had seen the two of them together. He would be able to come into her room, since a hotel was a public place.. sort of, and maybe use her as ‘bait’. She didn’t want to worry Evie then she already was and maybe the girl just needed to have to time alone to rest, recuperate and get a grip in the night’s events. She would just have to keep an eye on things and try to keep the girl safe so she could return to this Hogwarts school unharmed. ------------------
Meanwhile the blonde vampire had returned to where he and his ‘girlfriend’ were going to be residing, an unconscious girl dragged along behind him. Once he entered he went down the stairs where he made his way to a bed where a woman was already waiting for him. She sat up, her dark ebony hair flowing around her shoulder and back. She is surrounded by her collection of dolls but now faces the man that had now entered.
“Pet, are you going to eat something?” he asked as he sits on the bed.
“I’m not hungry” her dreamy, childish voice replied “I miss Prague” she whines.
“You nearly died in Prague. That idiot mob. This is the place for us. The hellmouth will restore you” he smiled at her.
“The stars will align, and smile down on us” she said in her far-away tone as she lies back on the bed.
“And then, god this town will burn” he smirked as he lays down beside her.
She giggles “And a pretty fire it will be” she agreed.
The man rose to his feet again grabbing the girl, that now started to wake “I have to go make some arrangements for Saturday” he started “but you need to eat something” he told her as he hands the terrified girl to his.. mate.
The woman took the girl, turns one of the dolls around “Miss Edith spoke out of turn, She’s a bad example, and will have no cakes today…” she giggled as she bares the girl’s neck “you see miss Edith, if you’d been good, you could… have watched with the rest…” she smiled as she’s now in full vamp-mode and moves in for the kill while the girl just stared up as if hypnotized. ================
((soo sorry, but I couldn’t help myself bringing the blonde vamp into it… I hope you don’t mind… if so.. I’ll just remove it))
