Malou yawned as she opened her eyes a little girl jumping on the bed “Malou, Malou… opstaan!” (get up) she urged her big sister. Malou sighed but pulled the girl close “jaja lief, ga je maar alvast aankleden, en maak je broers ook maar wakker” (yeah yeah, sweety, go get dressed, and wake your brothers please) she answered. The little girl nodded eagerly and jumped from the bed running out of the room.
Malou grumbled as she got up out of bed and headed into the bathroom to take a shower. She quickly put on some jeans and a top showing of her athletic form. Well.. 4 years of fighting the forces of darkness would do that to a girl. She smirked as she shook her waste long blond hair quickly brushing it pulling it into a simple, long braid and headed down the stares where she fixed breakfast and started on the lunches her little ‘family’ would need. It hadn’t been long, but hey, she just had to cope didn’t she? And well.. coming to America (or wherever) had given them all the opportunity to start anew and she figured it had been a good idea. Her little sister and two brothers came into the kitchen sitting down at the table munching on their food.
Malou smiled as she herself popped some food in her mouth. Yeah… it had been a good idea. The blond then urged the other three to hurry and then took them to school before heading to her own new high-school. Things in Holland had been sooo different. No cheerleaders or sports at school (except of-course PE). Not such a real distinction between the ‘popular, in crowed’ and the ‘losers’. Ah well.. she really couldn’t care less and when she entered the building she first went by the library where Merrick had gotten a new job. Merrick had been her watcher ever since she’d been called 4 years ago. He had training her, researching for her and pretty much guiding her through the scary world of vampires, demons and other things that went bump in the night and she couldn’t be more grateful, even though she would never ever tell him that.
They spoke a little about her encounters the previous night and then she had to rush of to class to not be late. When she entered the teacher looked up “thank you for joining us Miss Jansen” he said. She simply shrugged and took her seat at the back of the class. God did she hate school. She took out her books and rested her head on her hand as she just stared ahead, her light-blue eyes blank. She yawned again as the teacher just continued his class and was glad to be pretty much ignored the rest of the class. She smirked inwardly. Even after a few months here, and the teachers had already given up on her. How sad really. Before the whole slayer thing she had been the best of her year, and even after she’d been in top of her class. After what happened about half a year ago now, things had been different and well.. she had had other, more pressing priorities.

“Mackenzie stop being so lazy and get up. You start your new school today”
This was the call that made Mackenzie Brown, a 16 year old Scottish girl groan and open her eyes. She looked towards her bedroom door and saw her Dad standing in the doorway. Rolling her eyes she sat up and pushed the covers off. “Look I‘m up” she said sarcastically waiting for him to close the door. She stood up and walked over to her en-suite bathroom quickly jumping in the shower.
After showering she blow dried her naturally curly short brown hair and slipped into a blue baby doll dress over dark jeans and then put on some blue pumps. She sighed as she put on some chap stick. She never wore much make up as her skin was naturally clear. Just a little mascara and eye liner.
She left her room and walked into the kitchen-dinette. Her Dad, step-mum and step-brother were all sat at the table. She sat down and poured herself some muesli. Eating it quickly she got her Jacket and Bag and waited for her father and brother at the front door.
As they got to the school her jaw dropped… “Oh my gosh” she said “It‘s huge” she watched as students ran to classes and got out of the car. “Lets go” her dad said walking towards the school. After signing in a teacher took her to her first class. She sat down near the back and waited for everyone else to join them. As class started she listened to what each person had to say to the teacher then watched as a girl was late and was scolded slightly by the teacher. She smiled at the girl as she said down before looking back to the front.

Malou sighed as she simply scribbled meaningless things on her notepad. She turned her head seeing a new girl sat beside her. Or at least… the blond teen thought she was new. She returned the brunette’s smile and then returned with her scribbling. Damn, was she bored. She sighed. She just really needed a good night sleep, not that that would ever happen. She was the ‘chosen one’ and that meant being out at night fighting. She just hoped the training would not take to long this afternoon so she’d at least be home early so she could spent some time with her siblings. They hadn’t seen much of her lately and it was about time they got ‘reacquainted’.
Then finally the bell rang, ending that particular nightmare. The blond smiled as she quickly grabbed her stuff quickly heading out of the room. She passed some jocks were about to beat up some other boy. She huffed. She just couldn’t get used to how different things were here. Don’t get me wrong, there were fights at her old school too, just nothing as unfair as this. She sighed knowing if she intervened she might cause the other boy more trouble… but then again… just letting these air-heads beat him…? She sighed grabbing one of the boy’s fists as he was about to strike. When the boy looked over his shoulder he narrowed his eyes. This girl could not be serious. She was barely 5 ft. The way she held onto his wrist though seemed surreal and, even though he would never admit it, was rather painful, and no matter how he tried he could not get out of her grasp.
“Now you and your friends just beat it, and I’ll leave you in one piece” Malou hissed tightening her grip even further. The boy nodded.
The small blond let go, satisfied when they left. The other boy mumbled a ‘thank you’ before quickly moving away. The girl sighed and smirked. Damn boys… all so predictable. She went outside and lit a cigarette. Inhaling deeply she sat down on the grass letting the sun stroke her face. Okay, so yeah… she could really start to learn to like it here. The weather was just sooo much better then back home and that for one, for her, was a biiig plus.

Mackenzie barely paid attention ti what the teacher had to say. What did she care. She just wanted to be back in Scotland with her friends. She sighed scribbling on her notepad. As the bell rand she smiled picking up her stuff. She was last out of the class and stopped as she saw the blonde who had sat next to her defending a small boy against very big guys.
Things were so different here. There were jocks and cheerleaders and there were social groups which she had never even heard of before. She sighed walking to her locker. Taking out a piece of paper she looked at the numbers written on it. Turning the lock she stopped at each number and finally opened the locker. That was another difference, in her old school she had to carry about her books with her and no one got lockers. She placed the books she had received in her first class in the locker and closed it.
Turning she looked around. Perhaps she would go for a walk outside. She walked through the crowd having to move out of the way for a few people. How rude she thought rolling her eyes. She stepped outside and walked down the steps. Stopping at the bottom she turned and looked up at the front of the school. Then she turned left and walked across the grass her hands deep in the pocket of her jeans.

The blonde girl leaned back on her elbows. She would have to go to her locker later. Strange, sure they’d had locker back at her old school.. but no-one used it for more then their jackets or gym-clothes. Books were just carried around in 20 pound (on a light day) backpack. It hadn’t been a problem for her. Another difference here was that high-school here was from 16 though 18. Back home you would high-school at 12 through either 16, 17 or 18 depending you capabilities. She blew out some more smoke closing her eyes. Ah well.. She supposed it would just take time for her to get used to it. She crossed then scanned the area. Students had all formed their little groups hanging out on the benches or grass. She was glad not to have to be a part of it. She hated group-behaviour, even though she realized it was just human-nature. She guessed she just was kind of a loner.
She noticed the new girl heading outside as well and pulled in her legs as the brunette was about to trip over them. She figured the last thing the girl needed was to fall flat on her face on her first day. She smiled “careful there” she warned. She blew out the last of her cigarette throwing away her cigarette-but, holding out her hand “I’m Malou” she introduced herself “so how’s your first day going?” she asked.
She could imagine how being the new kid might feel and well, it never hurt to be nice… did it? She now sat on the grass cross-legged making room for the other to join her, if she wanted that is. The blond pulled out her braid and let her waste-long waves flow down her back as she ran a hand through her hair loosening it up a little. She didn’t wear any make-up. First-of, she just didn’t have time for it, second who would she be doing that for? Not like she had time for something as normal as boyfriends, besides, she couldn’t bring someone into the danger that was her life.
What had happened to her parents was bad enough, and she would have to live with that. The blond sighed… she really, really lead a pathetic life didn’t she? She smirked inwardly… the only upside was that she could just relieve frustration by kicking baddy-ass…

Mackenzie smiled as the girl held out her hand “Hey…I’m Mackenzie” she said in her Scottish accent taking the girls hand and shaking it. She sat down next to her hoping she didn’t mind “Oh my gosh it‘s horrible” she said chattering away “People in this school are so full of themselves” she added “People just stare at you like you’re an alien or something0” she stopped then looked at the girl kind of shocked “I didn‘t mean that in anyway aimed at you though…Your actually the first person to talk to me” she smiled and ran her hand through her hair.
She had brought a bag with her, but seeing as she didn’t need it for her books she just had her keys, a bottle of water and her lunch in it. She placed it down next to her and looked around at all the different ‘cliques’ shaking her head she turned back to the girl.

Malou smiled “nice to meet you” she said as she watched the other sit down. She didn’t mind… hell it might even be quit nice. She started to chatter away and she just listened and smiled “just give it some time” she smiled “you’ll get used to it” she shrugged. She laughed at the other’s antics when she realized what she’d said. She shook her head “don’t worry, I just arrived a few months ago” she shrugged with her soft, slight Dutch accent. The blond leaned back on her elbows once more. The blonde sighed “It’s just so different here” she commented.
She rummaged through her bag to find her cigarettes. She was going to get in one more smoke before the next class started. She held one out to the other girl “want one?” she asked. She knew smoking was bad.. but then again. With the slaying she probably wasn’t going to last much longer that 20 anyway so she wasn’t to worry about it. The blonde lit her cigarette and blew out some smoke. Yep.. this was good… The only problem was that the harder stuff was more difficult to get to down here. In Holland she hadn’t had any trouble getting booze, since well.. the legal age was 16, and well.. the coffee or head-shops hadn’t bothered giving her to good stuff. She kind of missed the soothing and relaxing effects of a good joint.. But hey, she’d survive… or so she thought.
Merrick though couldn’t be more pleased though. He and her parents had given her speech after speech… about how awful she was being… She had just simply told them to stuff it, she had more responsibility then most people her age combined and so screw the lot if every once in a while she needed something to detach herself from it all.
Okay, so her parents hadn’t known, and thank god for that… they wouldn’t have been able to handle that… Their daughter running all that risk? She sighed. Well.. good thing she was the best… or so her watcher told her. She didn’t really care, it was in her nature. If she did something and committed to something she would make sure she gave a 110%.
She turned her attention to the girl before her “it’ll get better” she smiled.

Mackenzie smiled “No thanks I don’t smoke” she said. She shrugged “I don‘t know. Everyone here seems to be so….American” she said looking around “Its totally different from Scottish schools” She smiled and turned back “So where are you from?” she asked smiling at the girl.
Mackenzie sighed and thought back to how it was before she was forced to move here. How she had had a large group of friends all of whom had begged her not to go. As her thought turned to her father she swore in her head. She would never forgive him or her stupid step mum for this. She smirked at the thought of her step mum loosing the job which had been the reason behind the move. Then hopefully wished it would come true.
She came from a well off family. Not super rich but still very well off. She was expected to live up to the family name. Be a certain way. A way that she didn’t feel was right for her. She loved singing and performing but according to her father those sort of traits were not acceptable in they’re family. She was to go into business with her brother who would be taking over the family company in a few years time. She was to go to college and study law. She was to do this, to do that. She resented the whole lot of them and they’re stupid ways.
She smiled at Malou and sighed .

The blonde sighed “Yep… well.. that’s what you get when you’re in America” she smiled “I’m from Holland” she replied and nodded “yeah… they are a lot different from Dutch schools too… a lot easier though” she shrugged putting the cigarette away when Mackenzie said she didn’t smoke.
It was true… schools in America were quit a bit easier then what she left behind, because in Holland you’d judged on your abilities quit early. She remembered taking the nation-wide test that would determine where she’d end up in high-school. She’d ended up in the A-levels (I thinks it’s called in the UK) and had basically breezed through that. She had been lucky with her family. They would have supported her, no matter what… They had all been really close and she was glad that even her 3 year younger brother now just seemed to accept her ‘authority’ now that their parents had died. It had been devastating to all of them, and even though Malou had never shown any form of emotion, she missed them dearly. She remembered how her father would go out of his way to make her smile, or how her mother would always (try to) understand where she was coming from.
Then there were her brothers, who both were just a rambunctious lot that lived for sports, football (soccer) in particular and her little sister that was just the ‘spoilt’ little princess. The real girly girl that Malou had never been. All very different, but, as she had come to realize, all still tight and coming together in the hard times. She owed them a lot.
The blond returned the other girl’s smile running her hand through her hair, removing it from her face… “you alright?” she asked as the brunette heaved a sigh.

Mackenzie nodded “Yeah just thinking about Scotland” she said with a sigh. She smiled and ran her hand through her hair. She didn’t see herself as a girly girl but she saw herself as girly enough. She had never been liked by loads of guys. She had had the same boyfriend for quite a few years but she had never told her father. They unfortunately broke up before she moved here but kept in touch every day.
She smiled “Wow Holland” she said looking amazed “I‘d love to go to Holland”
She looked over and saw her step brother with a group of jocks. Rolling her eyes. Typical she thought as a group of rather slutty girls with pom poms had decided to surround them. She chuckled slightly and turned back to Malou.

Malou smiled “Scotland is supposed to be very beautiful” she commented as she remembered pictures and things on tv. She had been in London but never somewhere else in the UK. She raised an eyebrow “you want to go to Holland?” she inquired “Why?” she asked. Holland wasn’t anything special. It was crowded, cold and rainy.
The blonde grimaced as a group of jocks walked outside and were immediately surrounded by those dimwitted cheerleaders. She smirked shaking her head “luckily for them the spelling they have to do isn’t to hard” the blond smirked. She stretched slightly suppressing a yawn. Last night had become really later… or well… early in the morning really. The whole thing was starting to take it out on her. The slaying, the training, school, taking care of everything at home. She however was dealing and just took everything in her stride. She was not about to let it get to her. The girl was determined and you would not find a more stubborn person in your life.
She smiled at the other girl as the brunette now turned her attention towards her. Malou shook her head “god am I glad we don’t have this bull-s*it back home” she smirked “so, why did you move here?” she asked as her blue eyes were now back on the girl before her.

Mackenzie smiled and laughed at the joke about the cheerleaders. “Well…Its ok” she said referring to Scotland “It‘s a bit cold and you get used to being surrounded by fields and stuff all day” she continued. “I don’t know why it just seems like a nice place to go” she added shrugging.
Mackenzie smiled “Well….After my mum died” she said “It was just me and my dad for years. Then he met Claudine” her face showed disgust “He went on to marry her and I got a not so lovely Step brother” she gestured towards Joshua “Well then Claudine…who is a model, she got a job here and my dad who apparently is under some sort of spell decided to pack up and leave everything and everyone we had ever known” She rolled her eyes and shook her head disbelievingly. “And that’s how I ended up here. What about you?” she asked looking at the blonde curiously.

Malou smiled nodding “yeah… I suppose… Holland is cold and wet… and well.. crowded…” she shrugged when the other stated it just seemed a nice place to go.
Then Mackenzie answered her question and told her they had moved because her mother had died and she looked at the brunette sympathetic “I’m sorry” she told her. They had apparently moved for her new step-mom who had gotten a job here. She smiled as she was told her father must be under some sort of spell. The blond girl shook her head “maybe you should look into that” she smiled slightly. She had met an evil witch once, and in her life, everything was possible.
She followed the girl’s gaze and saw the one she mentioned as a step-brother and rolled her eyes. A typical jock, or so it seemed. Ah well.. that wasn’t her problem. When the other asked her why she had moved here. The blonde shrugged unsure what she should say. She didn’t want any trouble with social services and well she was only 16 after all. They probably would not let her take care of her family. She figured lying might be the best option for the moment. She shouldn’t make any friends anyway… it would be too dangerous for them “we moved here because my father got a new job here… some sort of great opportunity” she shrugged She sighed as the bell-rang signalling the start of a new class “and a new nightmare begins…”

Mackenzie shrugged “I was too young to remember her” she said. “So we‘re basically in the same boat” she added referring to Malou’s father getting a new job “Well…Sort of” She chuckled and stood up as the bell rang.
She looked down at the time table she had been given at the start of the day and saw she was meant to go to History in class B6. She looked around and turned to Malou “Do you know where B6 is?” she asked hopefully. As she said this Joshua passed and sneered at her, Great now my life will be a living hell here she thought rolling her eyes.

Malou rose to her feet to head into the school. She followed the other girl and nodded “yeah I do.. as a matter of fact I have to be there as well…” she assured “Just follow me” she smiled heading into the building. She liked history.. sort of anyway… she lead the new girl through the corridor of the school heading into class… then there was the rest of the school-day that went by without much trouble. Classes were boring, but hey, she survived. Then finally the last bell sounded ending the day. The blond sighed thankful.
“Thank god, the nightmare ends” she whispered to the Mackenzie who sat next to her. They gathered their things and headed outside where a little girl came rushing towards her “Malou, Malou” she laughed jumping into her big sister’s arms starting to ramble on about her day in school with her friends. Then the little girl looked at the other girl with her sister and switched over to English “hello” she greeted with a smile “I’m Josta” she introduced herself.
Malou shook her head smiling “hey schat” she laughed catching the little girl whose attention was soon turned to the other girl. The blond sat her sister down and went over to her brothers that were patiently waiting a little away. They smiled and then they went over to join their sisters.
Malou turned to Mackenzie “sorry… I had to pick them up from school” she smiled ruffling her sisters hair.
